The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting of Nathan Masai Wasama, a 61-year-old businessman and Mt Elgon Constituency aspirant.
Wasama was killed on the night of August 8, 2026, at his shop in Tuikut Trading Centre, Sasur Location, Cheptais Sub-County, Bungoma County. According to investigations, four men on two motorcycles arrived at the trading centre. One of the pillion passengers entered Wasama’s shop and shot him before fleeing with the others.
Suspects Arrested and Evidence Seized
- Oscar Koech Sakong was first arrested and detained at Sirisia police station.
- On August 11, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Marigo Village, Cheptais, resulting in the arrest of two more suspects: Wycliffe Chesubei Ngeiwa, alias Chota, and Geoffrey Makwere Masai.
- Police recovered several items including a military-style smoke jacket, a stun grenade, axes, crowbars, pangas, knives, arrows, motorcycles, mobile phones, and an iPod.
Ongoing Investigations
The suspects remain in custody as detectives prepare for their arraignment and seek custodial orders to continue investigations. Authorities are actively pursuing additional leads to identify all involved parties and clarify the motive behind the attack.
A woman was also injured during the shooting and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
