The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Nairobi has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming that it was closed due to unpaid rent. In an official statement released on August 13, 2026, the Embassy clarified that it remains fully operational despite some temporary disruptions in services.

The Embassy explained that the interruptions affecting consular and administrative services were caused by a localized power outage resulting from an electrical surge. Technical teams are actively working to restore normal power supply, which is expected shortly.

Addressing the public and media, the mission urged reliance on verified information from official Embassy channels and cautioned against spreading unconfirmed reports. It emphasized that the alleged closure due to financial issues is misleading and unsubstantiated.

Denial of Political and Financial Engagement Claims

In addition to refuting rent-related closure rumours, the Embassy firmly rejected reports suggesting that its Chargé d'Affaires had engaged with third-party political groups concerning the mission's administration or finances. These allegations, including claims of offered financial assistance to the Embassy's leadership, were described as entirely false and unfounded.

The statement reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to adhering strictly to diplomatic protocols and official government procedures, underscoring its independence and credibility.

The Embassy concluded by expressing gratitude for the public’s patience during this brief inconvenience and assured that normal operations will resume promptly once power is restored.
