Garissa County has welcomed its second airline service following the launch of scheduled flights by Skyward Express, which now operates four weekly flights between Wilson Airport in Nairobi and Garissa Airstrip.
The new route joins the existing service by Freedom Airline, which also offers four flights per week on the same corridor. This development effectively doubles the number of weekly scheduled flights between Nairobi and Garissa to eight, providing travellers with increased options and flexibility.
Governor Nathif Jama officiated the launch and highlighted the significance of improved air connectivity for the county. He emphasized that the additional flights will not only facilitate passenger travel but also stimulate business, investment, tourism, and trade, while easing access to essential services outside Garissa.
"This is more than just a new flight service; it opens a gateway to new opportunities for our residents and businesses," Governor Jama stated.
The introduction of Skyward Express to the route coincides with the airline’s 13th anniversary, marking the Nairobi-Garissa connection as its 13th route since its inception. The airline reaffirmed its commitment as a Kenyan-owned carrier and expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Garissa’s community and commercial sectors.
Governor Jama congratulated Skyward Express chairman Captain Mohamed Abdi and his team for their investment, noting that the expanded flight schedule strengthens Garissa’s link to Nairobi, where many government and business services are headquartered.
