Nyandarua Senator John Methu has called on the Kenya Kwanza administration to release a comprehensive report detailing President William Ruto’s achievements and shortcomings since assuming office in 2022.

Methu’s remarks come after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, issued a public audit scrutinizing government performance on critical issues such as the cost of living, taxation, public debt, healthcare, education, and security.

Key Issues Raised by Senator Methu

  • Economic Performance: Methu questioned whether economic growth has translated into improved household incomes and living standards, challenging claims of reduced tax burdens and better affordability.
  • Public Debt: He sought clarification on the debt inherited by President Ruto in 2022 versus the amount accumulated during his tenure.
  • Education Financing: Despite increased spending, Methu highlighted ongoing financial challenges faced by universities, schools, students, and parents.

Criticizing the use of superficial economic indicators, such as increased soda consumption, as proof of economic progress, Methu stressed that improvements must be tangible in people’s daily lives, including job creation, business profitability, and savings.

Call for Justice in Witima Church Attack

The senator also renewed demands for accountability regarding the January 2026 tear gas attack at St Peter's ACK Church in Witima, Othaya, where violence disrupted a service attended by Gachagua. Despite ongoing investigations, arrests have yet to be made, prompting concerns over delayed justice.
