Safaricom has faced customer backlash following adjustments to its data bundle offerings, with subscribers expressing dissatisfaction over pricing and package validity.

The controversy intensified after a subscriber, identified as Boke, raised concerns on social media about the removal of the 20 Ksh 1GB one-hour bundle and the introduction of a 1GB package priced at 99 Ksh that reportedly lasts less than five hours.

In response, Safaricom Care apologized for the inconvenience and noted that data offers are subject to periodic changes. The company emphasized that its packages are designed based on current pricing strategies and business needs but welcomed ongoing customer feedback.

Changes to Data Bundles

Recent modifications include restricting the previously all-day 1GB one-hour bundle to specific hours and launching new "Pata More" packages, such as 250MB for 20 Ksh and 1.5GB for 99 Ksh. These revisions have sparked debate, particularly among users who depend on affordable, short-term data for everyday internet use.

Safaricom continues to offer a range of monthly bundles starting at 500MB for 100 Ksh, accessible via the *544# menu. However, the recent dissatisfaction highlights the sensitivity among Kenyan consumers regarding data pricing, package flexibility, and validity periods as internet access remains vital.
