Saboti MP Caleb Amisi Urges Patience Over Linda Mwananchi Party Registration

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called on supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement to exercise patience as they await the registration of their political party. Speaking on NTV, Amisi explained that political party registration has evolved and must now adhere strictly to legal procedures, which can be time-consuming.

He highlighted that the name Linda Mwananchi was already reserved two years ago, preventing any new party from registering under the same name or abbreviation. "The Registrar of Political Parties cannot register two parties with identical or closely similar names," Amisi emphasized, urging the movement's supporters to understand this legal restriction rather than suspect political interference.

Amisi drew from his own experience with the People's Renaissance Movement (PM), which faced similar challenges. He noted that the abbreviation PRM had been reserved before his group commenced registration, leading them to adopt PM instead. Despite the original PRM not completing full registration, the name remained reserved in the system, complicating new applications.

He further explained that the registration process under the current framework is lengthy, with his party taking about one and a half years to finalize registration. The People's Renaissance Movement was officially registered earlier this year and launched in Nairobi in August, positioning itself as a contender in the 2027 General Election with a focus on economic liberation and justice.

Amisi stressed the importance of viewing party registration as a legal process governed by specific requirements rather than a quick administrative task. He encouraged political groups to respect these rules to ensure orderly and lawful party formation.
