President William Ruto has called on the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to prepare for future security challenges that extend beyond conventional battlefields. Addressing new recruits at the Recruit Training School in Eldoret, he emphasized the need for soldiers to be technologically adept, intellectually engaged, and constitutionally grounded.

Ruto highlighted the changing nature of warfare, which now includes cyber threats and requires a broader skill set than traditional military training. He urged the recruits to uphold discipline and exercise sound judgment while carrying out their duties.

Expanding Role of the Military

The President noted that the KDF’s responsibility goes beyond protecting Kenya’s borders; it also involves safeguarding national unity, constitutional order, and the country's future prospects.

“KDF must not simply defend the country Kenya is today. It must secure the country Kenya intends to become,” Ruto stated, urging recruits to respect legal limits and distinguish lawful authority from abuse.

Honouring Legacy and Preparing for New Threats

Ruto reminded the graduates that they are joining an institution built on the sacrifice and courage of past servicemen. He challenged them to prepare for security threats that previous generations could not have foreseen.

“Honour them not only by preserving what they built, but also by preparing for a world they could not have imagined,” he said.

Government Support and Future Deployment

The President assured continued government investment in the welfare, training, and operational readiness of the KDF, especially in emerging areas such as cybersecurity, intelligence, maritime security, and military medicine.

Graduates will be deployed across various roles, including border security, airspace and maritime protection, as well as specialized fields like engineering and medical services.

Defending Peace and Freedom

Ruto reminded the recruits that national defense is not merely about preventing conflict but creating conditions for peace, freedom, and stability. He urged them to carry out their duties courageously and with discipline, guided always by the Constitution.

“Let the Constitution be your compass. Defend our sovereignty. Protect our people. Secure Kenya's future,” the President concluded.
