Ruto Launches Ksh2 Billion Road Construction Plan in Machakos County
President Ruto unveils a Ksh2 billion initiative to build 200km of roads in Machakos, boosting connectivity and reviving stalled projects ahead of 2027 elections.
President William Ruto has announced a Ksh2 billion investment to construct 200 kilometres of new roads in Machakos County. The announcement was made on Saturday, August 22, 2026, during the launch of the Makaveti-Kyangala-Liyuni Road.
The Makaveti-Kyangala-Liyuni route, spanning nearly 20 kilometres, is one of seven new road projects planned in the county. In addition, funds have been allocated to complete eight previously stalled road projects, signalling a commitment to enhancing regional connectivity.
Seven New Road Projects in Machakos
- The Makaveti-Kyangala-Liyuni road is a key project aimed at linking different parts of the county.
- These new roads are designed to improve transport infrastructure and stimulate economic activities across Machakos.
- The government’s budget prioritises both new constructions and the revival of halted projects to ensure continuous development.
Response to Political Critics
At the event, President Ruto urged political opponents to focus on constructive agendas rather than personal attacks. He challenged them to present clear alternatives to his development plans, emphasizing the need for ideas that address Kenyans' real concerns.
“I have a message for those who are trying to compete with me. Tafuteni maono, tafuteni agenda,” Ruto said, encouraging rivals to engage thoughtfully in political discourse.
Development as a Political Priority
The president linked the road projects to his broader vision of economic growth and infrastructure improvement. He questioned critics about their own proposals for addressing local needs, reinforcing development as central to his administration’s agenda.
Ruto’s visit coincided with the closing ceremony of the African Brotherhood Church Women of Faith Congress at Scott Christian University, where thousands gathered for prayer and fellowship. The event also saw support from local leaders, including Mwingi East MP Mwengi Mutuse, who endorsed Ruto’s 2027 presidential bid.
This initiative comes amid increased political activity as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections, with infrastructure projects playing a significant role in campaign messaging.
