President William Ruto has launched the Beyond 2030 national dialogue, emphasising its role in fulfilling the constitutional mandate for public participation in national planning.
Addressing the gathering at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Ruto highlighted that the 2010 Constitution makes public consultation a mandatory part of policy formulation. This dialogue aims to create a comprehensive development roadmap for Kenya beyond the current Vision 2030 framework.
Engaging All Kenyans
The President called on citizens from all walks of life — including farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and technocrats — to contribute their views. This inclusive approach seeks to build consensus on the country’s future trajectory, with the ultimate goal of transforming Kenya into a first-world economy by 2060.
Learning from Vision 2030
Ruto noted that Vision 2030, launched in 2008 before the 2010 Constitution, had limited public input, which contributed to some implementation challenges and delays in key projects like Konza Technopolis. The new dialogue offers an opportunity to address these gaps by involving the public directly in crafting the next long-term development plan.
