President William Ruto has praised a team of scholars spearheaded by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o and Prof Hiroyuki Hino for establishing the intellectual groundwork for Kenya’s Vision 2060 development plan.
The commendation came during the launch of a nationwide dialogue on the country’s long-term development strategy at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on August 12, 2026.
Setting the Stage for Vision 2060
As Vision 2030 nears completion, President Ruto emphasized the importance of initiating a comprehensive discussion on Kenya’s future trajectory. He highlighted the scholars' critical role in providing expertise to inform the new framework aimed at guiding Kenya’s progress through 2060.
Inclusive National Dialogue
The Vision 2060 initiative seeks to engage diverse stakeholders across the nation, including government officials, academics, private sector leaders, civil society, religious groups, and youth representatives. The goal is to collectively identify priorities that will shape Kenya’s development over the next several decades.
A People-Centered Approach
President Ruto underscored that the forthcoming development blueprint must be driven by broad public participation and firmly rooted in the Constitution. He stressed the need for a unified national vision that transcends electoral cycles and is upheld by successive governments.
The scholarly team led by Governor Nyong’o and Prof Hino will continue to provide the intellectual and technical support necessary to steer these discussions and ensure the resulting agenda aligns with the aspirations of all Kenyans.
