Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) successfully defended their UEFA Super Cup title by edging Aston Villa 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, on August 12, 2026.
The match saw Khvicha Kvaratskhelia open the scoring for PSG in the 20th minute, with a precise low shot past Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Marco Bizot. Villa responded just before halftime through 17-year-old debutant Brian Madjo, who volleyed in a cross from John McGinn to become the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history.
The winning goal for PSG came in the 60th minute courtesy of Désiré Doué. After a well-timed pass from substitute Ousmane Dembélé, Doué broke through Villa’s defensive line and curled a left-footed shot into the net. Although initially flagged offside, a VAR review overturned the decision, confirming Matty Cash had inadvertently played Doué onside.
Despite Aston Villa’s late efforts to level the score, PSG held firm under the management of Luis Enrique to claim the trophy.
Financial Rewards
PSG’s triumph earned the club a total of KSh 745.75 million (€5 million). This sum includes a guaranteed appearance fee of KSh 596.6 million (€4 million) awarded to both finalists, plus an additional winner’s bonus of KSh 149.15 million (€1 million) exclusive to PSG. Aston Villa, as runners-up, received the appearance fee but did not qualify for the winner’s bonus.
