President William Ruto convened more than 5,000 delegates from all 47 counties at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to discuss Kenya's Vision 2060.

The event brought together diverse sectoral stakeholders, including Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, who chairs the committee responsible for drafting the long-term development blueprint aimed at transforming Kenya into a first-class nation by 2060.

Governor Nyong’o noted that Vision 2030 has largely fulfilled its goals, though some targets remained unmet. He emphasized the necessity for a fresh, comprehensive development plan to guide sustainable growth beyond 2030.

He underscored the importance of insulating Vision 2060 from the disruptions caused by electoral cycles, urging successive governments to uphold and implement the plan regardless of changes in political leadership.

“Long-term development goals must not be disrupted by electoral cycles and the political leadership that such elections bring up from time to time,” Nyong’o remarked, citing examples of socio-economic transformations in Asian countries.

Addressing Global Challenges and Building Resilience

Global disruptions were identified as significant challenges impacting Kenya’s development. The governor called for building a resilient economy that can withstand international shocks so that by 2060, Kenya’s progress remains steady despite external disturbances.

Next Steps in the Vision 2060 Process

The KICC dialogue marks the commencement of a broader public participation phase. The draft Vision 2060 plan will be presented across all counties to gather input from citizens and stakeholders.
