President William Ruto on Wednesday officially launched nationwide public consultations to develop Vision 2060, Kenya's long-term development blueprint, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

Addressing a gathering of over 5,000 participants from all 47 counties and various sectors, Ruto emphasized the need for Kenya to move beyond short-term electoral politics and focus on sustainable planning for future generations.

Prioritizing Future Generations Over Elections

President Ruto highlighted that the country’s development has often been hindered by leaders prioritizing election cycles instead of long-term strategies. He stated, “Kenya is bigger than any election. For far too long, we have made elections look like it is a matter of life and death. It is not.”

He acknowledged the political pressures leaders face to avoid difficult decisions that might affect their electoral prospects but insisted that the nation’s future must not be sacrificed for short-term gains.

Vision 2060: A Roadmap Beyond Vision 2030

With Vision 2030 nearing its conclusion, the consultations mark the start of a comprehensive public engagement process to shape Vision 2060. This new framework aims to transform Kenya into a high-income, industrialized, and globally competitive economy over the coming decades.

Ruto described the initiative as the largest public participation exercise since the 2010 Constitution and underscored the importance of collective responsibility in implementing the Constitution’s promises.

Inclusive Participation Encouraged

The President called on all Kenyans to contribute ideas, stressing that no one holds a monopoly on good solutions. He highlighted key constitutional rights—such as access to water, education, healthcare, housing, and freedom from hunger—that require deliberate planning to be fully realized.
