President William Ruto has called on the latest cohort of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) graduates to respect the sacrifices of past servicemen by upholding the institution’s core values and preparing it for future demands.
Speaking at the pass-out parade held at the Recruits Training School in Eldoret, Ruto reminded the recruits that they join a military force founded on the courage and dedication of previous generations. He emphasized that honouring these veterans goes beyond preserving traditions; it also requires adapting to new realities the founders could not foresee.
"You inherit an institution built by servicemen and veterans whose courage laid its foundation," the President said. "Honor them not only by preserving what they built, but also by preparing for a world they could not have imagined."
Ruto urged the recruits to approach their military careers with discipline, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning as they take on diverse roles within the armed forces.
The graduating class comprises over 5,000 recruits who have completed nine months of rigorous training. The President assured the military community of the government's ongoing support, promising continued investment in welfare, training, and operational readiness.
He highlighted plans to enhance specialised capabilities in areas such as cybersecurity, intelligence, maritime security, and military medicine, underscoring the importance of evolving to meet modern security challenges.
"Your service must now teach you to exercise judgment under pressure, to lead human beings and to know the difference between lawful authority and abuse," Ruto stated, stressing adherence to the Constitution and lawful conduct.
The recruits will serve in various capacities, including border protection, airspace security, and specialised fields like engineering and medicine. The President reminded them that the ultimate goal of national defence is to ensure peace, freedom, and stability for all Kenyans.
He concluded with a call for unwavering commitment to the country and future generations: "Let the Constitution be your compass. Defend our sovereignty. Protect our people. Secure Kenya’s future."
