Gor Mahia Football Club patron Eliud Owalo has unveiled an ambitious plan to register at least one million official members from the club’s extensive supporter base. This initiative seeks to transform the fans into a key financial resource, enabling the club to achieve greater economic independence.
Owalo emphasized that mobilizing the club’s supporters beyond stadium cheering to active membership would significantly enhance Gor Mahia’s financial stability. "With one million fully registered members, we can operate with much less dependence on sponsorships," he stated.
Despite securing lucrative sponsorship deals — including a three-year KSh30 million agreement with Kansai Plascon and an annual KSh7.5 million partnership with electric mobility firm Spiro — Owalo envisions a shift towards a supporter-driven economic model. He urged fans to embrace a corporate mindset, moving away from a welfare mentality to become active stakeholders in the club’s future.
The membership drive aims to generate sustainable revenue streams through subscriptions, merchandise sales, and other supporter-led initiatives. This approach aligns with Gor Mahia’s broader strategy to leverage its massive following into an organized financial network supporting long-term goals.
The timing of this push is critical as Gor Mahia, Kenya’s record 22-time league champions, prepare for a challenging season that includes continental competitions. Owalo’s call to action invites the "Kogalo" family to unite and contribute directly to the club’s growth and independence.
