ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his recent comments about the circumstances surrounding the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
During a development tour at Nyakiamo Stadium, Homa Bay Governor Wanga urged Gachagua to respect Raila's memory and refrain from using the late ODM leader's name in political campaigns.
Wanga's Strong Rebuttal
Wanga recalled Gachagua's past hostility towards Raila, referencing a 5:00 AM statement where Gachagua vowed to kill Raila if he attended protests. She noted the attack on Raila's vehicle, where it was hit by ten bullets, nearly costing him his life.
She also highlighted Gachagua's absence from the Odinga family's mourning process, stating he has never visited Raila's burial site or condoled with the family, particularly Mama Ida Odinga.
"Leave Baba Raila Amolo Odinga alone to rest in peace in heaven," Wanga said. "You have never set foot where Baba Raila Amolo Odinga is buried... but every day, you wake up with rumors and reckless statements in his name. Do your politics without touching Baba Raila's name."
Gachagua's Allegations and ODM's Response
Gachagua recently raised questions about the deaths of Raila Odinga, Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, and MP Johana Ng'eno, suggesting irregularities and deviations from cultural funeral practices.
Wanga dismissed these claims as irresponsible and inflammatory, warning against tolerating such rhetoric.
Political Implications Ahead of 2027 Elections
Wanga ruled out any coalition talks between ODM and Gachagua's DPC party, citing ideological differences and accusing Gachagua of promoting exclusionary politics.
She expressed confidence that ODM will contest the 2027 General Election strongly and secure numerous elective positions nationwide.
