Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has emphasized the importance of safeguarding Kenya’s long-term development objectives from the interruptions caused by electoral cycles. Speaking at the launch of the Beyond 2030 dialogue forum held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on August 12, 2026, Nyong’o urged Kenyans to maintain focus on national development beyond the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The forum, which was attended by President William Ruto, marks the start of public engagement in shaping Vision 2060, Kenya’s blueprint for socio-economic progress.
Focus Beyond Elections
Nyong’o highlighted lessons from countries in Asia that have achieved rapid socio-economic transformation by committing to long-term plans regardless of changes in political leadership. He cautioned against allowing electoral contests to derail the nation’s development trajectory.
“This conversation is not about the next general elections,” Nyong’o stated, urging patience and inclusivity in crafting Kenya’s future. He noted that while the country currently has only guidelines for the development framework, it lacks a finalized plan.
Inclusive National Dialogue
The Kisumu governor described the KICC meeting as the initial step in a nationwide conversation aimed at uniting Kenyans from all regions to articulate a shared vision for the country.
