Kenya has received fresh shipments of key petroleum products at its major ports as the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) prepares for its upcoming fuel price review scheduled for August 14.

According to cargo data from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), a shipment of Jet A1 aviation fuel arrived at Mombasa Port on August 11. This was followed by a consignment of V-Power, a premium petrol brand preferred for enhanced engine performance, docking at the same port on August 12.

Additional fuel supplies are expected soon, including fuel oil set to arrive on August 13. This product is vital for industrial power generation and heating applications. Furthermore, base oil, essential in lubricant manufacturing, is anticipated by August 16.

The arrival of these fuel shipments comes less than three days before EPRA’s monthly price announcement, a closely monitored event that influences transport costs and household budgets nationwide. The recent volatility in fuel prices has been linked to geopolitical tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.

Broader Cargo Arrivals Boost Supply Chains

Beyond fuel, several vessels are scheduled to dock at Mombasa and Lamu ports over the coming weeks carrying a range of goods:

  • Containers with various merchandise
  • Bulk wheat supporting food production
  • Steel coils for construction
  • Palm oil shipments expected mid-month
  • Bulk urea fertilizer and coal critical for agriculture and industry
  • Car carriers delivering vehicles to the local market
  • Other bulk cargoes including clinker, ammonium nitrate bags, and mining equipment

These arrivals are set to sustain multiple sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and mining.
