NCIC Summons Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Over Public Statements
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has summoned ex-DP Rigathi Gachagua over statements made at various public forums, setting a hearing on August 27.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has officially summoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to appear before the commission on August 27, 2026, at 2 pm at its offices located in Britam Towers, Upper Hill, Nairobi.
This summons follows remarks made by Gachagua at multiple public events on different dates, which have prompted the NCIC to initiate an inquiry into his recent public conduct. The commission is tasked with promoting national cohesion and preventing ethnic discrimination and hatred in Kenya.
In a notice signed by NCIC Chief Executive Daniel Mutegi Giti, the former deputy president was cautioned that failure to attend the hearing could result in the issuance of arrest warrants and contempt proceedings.
Gachagua, who served as Deputy President under President William Ruto before his impeachment in October 2024, has remained a prominent and vocal figure, frequently criticizing President Ruto and urging Kenyans not to support his re-election bid.
The NCIC has not disclosed the exact statements under investigation but has a history of summoning public figures whose comments are deemed to threaten national unity. Outcomes of such proceedings have ranged from warnings to formal prosecutions.
