Mwamba Rugby Football Club is gearing up for the George Kabeberi Sevens tournament at the RFUEA Grounds with renewed optimism following mixed results in the National Sevens Circuit.

Head coach Paul Murunga highlighted the contrasting fortunes of the men’s and women’s teams, noting the women’s squad has dominated the first two legs, while the men’s side has shown marked improvement.

Performance Highlights

  • The women’s team secured victories in both the Prinsloo and Dala Sevens legs.
  • The men’s team moved up from 11th place at Prinsloo Sevens to a strong third-place finish at the Dala Sevens in Kisumu.

Murunga emphasized that the men’s team, although young, has made significant progress and is focused on learning from past mistakes ahead of the home tournament. He tempered expectations, stating the priority is to enjoy the game while aiming to reach the main cup quarterfinals.

"We don’t want to put pressure on the young side; they just need to focus on their game and build on their recent success," Murunga said.

Looking Ahead

With the tournament on home turf, Murunga is calling on Mwamba supporters and rugby fans nationwide to come out in large numbers to support the teams.

Pool B features Mwamba alongside Strathmore Leos, Nondescripts, and CUEA Monks, who recently earned promotion to Division One. The other pools include:

  • Pool A: Kenya Harlequin, Daystar Falcons, Kisumu RFC
  • Pool C: Menengai Oilers, Zetech Oaks, Blak Blad, Mombasa RFC
  • Pool D: Defending champions KCB Rugby, Kabras Sugar, MMUST, Nakuru RFC
