Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has encouraged opposition leaders to emulate former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s national approach to politics.

Speaking on August 14, 2026, during the 61st Graduation Ceremony at Scott Christian University in Machakos, Murkomen praised Kalonzo for maintaining a unifying national perspective despite years in opposition.

Murkomen’s endorsement of Kalonzo’s politics

“Although we compete politically, I must commend Kalonzo Musyoka for consistently keeping his discourse national,” Murkomen stated. He suggested that other opposition figures could learn from Kalonzo’s example, particularly in focusing on countrywide issues rather than tribal divisions.

“I wish other opposition leaders would adopt this national outlook. Perhaps involvement in the AIC church has influenced Kalonzo’s commitment to unity and nationalism,” Murkomen added, lamenting the rise of divisive tribal politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Calls for peaceful campaigns and national development focus

The CS urged politicians and citizens alike to prioritize peaceful, issue-based campaigns during the election period. He advised supporters to avoid rallies of leaders they do not back to reduce tensions.

Further, Murkomen emphasized the importance of sustaining Kenya’s long-term development agenda beyond electoral cycles. He highlighted the “Beyond Vision 2030” framework as a critical national priority that transcends political contests.

Investments in education and skills development

Murkomen also praised Scott Christian University’s role in advancing education and national transformation. He outlined government initiatives under the Kenya Kwanza administration, including:

  • Recruitment of over 120,000 teachers in three years
  • Delivery of 23,000 classrooms and construction of 1,600 laboratories to support Competency-Based Education (CBE)
  • Doubling TVET enrolment to 718,000 students, enhancing access to practical skills training

These efforts aim to equip Kenyan youth with industry-relevant skills and strengthen the country’s human capital.
