Mount Elgon Member of Parliament Fred Kapondi has dismissed allegations connecting him to the murder of businessman Nathan Wasama. The 61-year-old Wasama, who had political ambitions for the Mount Elgon parliamentary seat, was fatally shot on the night of August 8, 2026, at his shop located in Tuikut Trading Centre, Sasur Location.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly suggested that Kapondi was involved in the killing. However, Kapondi strongly denied these accusations, describing them as misleading and unfounded.
Kapondi stated: "My conscience is clear. I have never been in the business of killing political opponents. It has never happened in my entire political career, and the late Wasama was never an opponent."
The MP also refuted claims that 18 firearms were discovered during a search of his residence, as alleged by Gachagua. He emphasized that he never threatened Wasama and has not been summoned by authorities in connection with the case.
"If I had threatened him, he would have filed a police report. He never did, and I would have been summoned to provide a statement if that were true," Kapondi added.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have apprehended five suspects believed to be involved in the murder. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
