Mourinho Confident Real Madrid's Star Trio Can Thrive Together

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has expressed confidence in the compatibility of the club's star players ahead of their La Liga opener against Espanyol.

Mourinho acknowledged the challenges faced by his predecessors in balancing the talents of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham. Despite the trio's individual success—highlighted by Madrid's 2024 Champions League victory with Bellingham and Vinicius playing key roles—the arrival of Mbappe has yet to yield a major trophy.

"They are incredible players and incredible players want to play with incredible players," Mourinho said. He emphasized the tactical complexity of integrating the three stars, noting the different systems that have suited them internationally but expressed determination to find a setup where all three can feel comfortable together on the pitch.

Highlighting the importance of teamwork, Mourinho insisted that defensive duties are a shared responsibility: "We have to defend with 11 players. If a team is pushing us back and giving us problems in our final third, we all have to defend."

Team Selection and Squad Harmony

In his second stint at Real Madrid, Mourinho anticipates tough decisions regarding starting lineups, warning players to expect frustration when not selected. "I want hard decisions... the team needs to know how to navigate moments of frustration," he said.

Addressing previous dressing room tensions, particularly between Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde, Mourinho stated the atmosphere within the squad has normalized. "They practically told me there was no need to speak about it, that I didn't have to try and have an influence to bring peace," he added.

The Portuguese coach described his current mindset as energized rather than pressured ahead of his Madrid return. "I wouldn't call it pressure, I'd call it adrenaline. It's a positive feeling," Mourinho concluded.
