Mercy Nashipai Legilisho, widely known as Mercy Masai, has officially joined the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) as she prepares to vie for the Kajiado County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 general election.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua welcomed Masai’s decision in a statement released on Sunday, August 16, 2026. He praised her for choosing a party that he described as attuned to the people's needs and aspirations.
Gachagua said:
- “Welcome to DCP Party Mercy Nashipai Legilisho as you plan your bid for the position of Woman Representative for Kajiado County.”
- He emphasized that Masai’s move reflects her responsiveness to the voices of Kajiado residents, aligning with what he termed the “Party of choice” for the area.
- He reiterated the DCP’s commitment to advancing Kenyans’ aspirations and indicated the party’s goal to broaden its influence beyond its established regions.
- “The future is Green!” he added, referencing the party’s emblematic colour as a call to action ahead of the upcoming elections.
Masai’s entry into DCP highlights the intensifying race for key political positions as parties ramp up preparations for the 2027 polls. The Kajiado Woman Representative contest is expected to be highly competitive.
