Comedian and radio presenter MCA Tricky has addressed rumours surrounding his departure from Milele FM, clarifying that he was terminated rather than leaving by choice.
Francis Munyao, popularly known as MCA Tricky, had been with Milele FM for six years, joining the station in June 2020. His tenure was the longest he had spent with any single employer.
Unexpected Termination During Germany Exchange
While participating in a three-month engineering exchange programme in Germany—part of his master's studies—Tricky formally requested unpaid leave from Milele FM, providing the management with an official invitation letter prior to his departure.
However, he was shocked to discover an email notifying him that the station had terminated his contract, citing financial losses due to his absence. Tricky emphasized that he did not resign voluntarily, stating, "I didn't leave on my own; I was fired. I woke up one morning to an email saying the company was losing money because I was away."
Gratitude Despite Abrupt Exit
Despite the sudden dismissal, MCA Tricky expressed no bitterness towards Milele FM, acknowledging the business realities media houses face. He remains thankful for the six years of employment and the opportunities the station provided.
He also advised professionals to diversify their career plans and not rely solely on one employer, saying, "The biggest mistake you can make is putting all your trust in an employer. You need other plans because you never know what might happen."
Future Plans and Personal Reflections
Currently, Tricky is focusing on his engineering research and digital media projects. He underscores the importance of education alongside talent for sustained career success.
Looking ahead, he plans to launch a media platform in October aimed at inspiring young Kenyan innovators and engineers.
Tricky has also openly shared his experience navigating single fatherhood following the tragic death of his baby mama, highlighting the emotional challenges involved.
