Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse has indicated that Makueni County is poised to support President William Ruto’s re-election campaign in the 2027 General Election. He attributes this shift to the county’s recent development gains and the increasing presence of national government projects.
Speaking during a public forum on August 16, 2026, Mutuse emphasized that voters in Makueni are prioritizing tangible development over political rhetoric and ethnic divisions.
Development Takes Center Stage
Mutuse highlighted that for years, Makueni was overlooked by previous administrations. However, under the current government, the county has witnessed significant projects being rolled out.
- "For the first time, national government projects are being implemented in Makueni," he stated.
- He stressed that the electorate is now focused on leaders who deliver measurable progress rather than those who engage in political hostility.
Rejection of Ethnic and Hostile Politics
The MP criticized politicians who continue to rely on ethnic mobilization and divisive politics, asserting that Kenyan voters have become more politically aware and demand accountability.
- "Citizens have moved beyond hatred and tribal politics," Mutuse said.
- He urged leaders to focus on development and genuine service to their communities.
Looking Ahead to 2027
Mutuse expressed confidence that the ongoing development projects in Makueni will influence voter decisions in the upcoming election. He challenged all politicians, whether in government or opposition, to present clear records of their achievements rather than relying on speeches alone.
As the 2027 elections approach, issues such as government performance, development delivery, and the cost of living are expected to dominate political discourse across Kenya.
