The Linda Mwananchi movement has announced plans to return to Homa Bay after its rally on August 16 was violently disrupted, resulting in multiple fatalities and property damage.

The initial rally faced major obstacles when key roads leading into Homa Bay town were blocked, forcing the convoy to navigate alternative routes. Despite engagements with residents on the outskirts, the group encountered hostile youths upon attempting to enter the town at dusk, leading to attacks on vehicles and participants.

Political Leaders Respond to Violence

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who was part of the convoy, recounted fleeing on foot after their vehicle was attacked. He emphasized the importance of returning to Homa Bay to prevent such tactics from becoming a norm ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Natembeya stated: "We must go back to Homa Bay. If we do not, some foolish people will copy this trend and start hiring goons to block roads so that politicians cannot visit their areas." He warned that allowing such behavior could hinder political campaigns and disrupt electoral processes.

Similarly, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka cautioned against political exclusion, suggesting that if other regions adopt such tactics, retaliatory actions could follow. "Do not push us, because that is where you are directing us. We could also lock our areas," he said.

Calls for Political Tolerance

Natembeya challenged Homa Bay leaders to embrace political tolerance, offering an open invitation for opposition rallies in their regions. He condemned the use of violence and intimidation in political contests, urging respect for democratic processes.

Meanwhile, investigations into the violent events continue. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has summoned Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma over controversial remarks made prior to the rally.
