Lawyer and political analyst Fanya Mambo Kinuthia has called on President William Ruto to resign if he feels constrained by the Kenyan Constitution in his leadership.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM, Kinuthia criticized the president for failing to deliver on his promise to lead Kenya towards Singapore-style development, instead comparing the country's trajectory to nations like Haiti and Kosovo, which he described as having weakened rule of law.
Kinuthia highlighted the government's response to the 2024 Gen Z protests against proposed tax amendments as a key example of governance failures. He noted that some protesters were killed and others remain missing, with no accountability forthcoming.
He also dismissed the Vision 2060 agenda, labeling events such as the one held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) as a misuse of public funds and time, arguing the plan is unrealistic while many Kenyans struggle to meet basic needs.
Questioning President Ruto's leadership style, Kinuthia contrasted the use of private jets by the president with Singaporean leaders who prefer commercial flights unless private transport is necessary. He suggested that Ruto’s frequent absences from the country hinder progress at home.
Further, Kinuthia accused the president of abandoning a promised national dialogue, asserting that victims of police brutality and extrajudicial killings were excluded from the process that produced the National Dialogue Committee report. He argued the report failed to capture public sentiment and was manipulated by politicians for self-interest.
On law enforcement, Kinuthia urged Inspector General Douglas Kanja to investigate and arrest those responsible for violence during the Ol Kalou by-election and to ensure fairness in police promotions. He also criticized perceived selective justice, noting that leaders allied with Kenya Kwanza appear less scrutinized than their political opponents.
