The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) announced that the inter-institution transfer window will close on Friday, August 14, ahead of the September 2026 intake.
Since July 17, students placed in universities and TVET institutions have had the opportunity to apply for transfers to alternative institutions or programmes that better align with their career goals. The transfer period was extended from two weeks to 30 days to allow students more time to make informed decisions.
Eligibility and Process
- Students placed in the 2026-27 academic year, including those from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 KCSE cohorts, are eligible to apply, provided they meet the minimum entry requirements for their preferred courses.
- Transfers depend on the availability of vacancies in the chosen programmes and institutions.
- Students who did not secure their preferred courses during the initial placement or who remain unplaced can use this window to seek alternative options.
Placement Statistics and Competition
For the 2026-27 academic year, KUCCPS placed 293,869 students across degree programmes, Level 6 diplomas, Level 5 craft certificates, and Level 4 artisan certificates. Notably, 8,915 students qualified for degree courses but opted for non-degree programmes.
Competition remains intense for popular courses, especially in education and medicine. KUCCPS CEO Mercy Wahome highlighted that approximately 40% of applicants chose education-related courses, while medical schools received about 6,500 applications for only 702 available slots.
