Detectives in Kiambu have obtained an additional seven days to detain Dr. Denis Masoba Nyambane, a 36-year-old surgeon at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, who stands accused of fatally stabbing his wife during a domestic altercation.
The victim, 30-year-old Mary Mwende Mutie, was attacked with a kitchen knife at their rented apartment in Busacarde Plaza, Kiambu. She died instantly, leaving behind their three-year-old son, who witnessed the incident and is reportedly traumatized.
Authorities discovered bloodstains on the staircase of the apartment, believed to be where Mwende collapsed while trying to exit the premises after being stabbed. Isaac Omare, the apartment caretaker, recounted that a neighbor alerted him following the attack, but by the time he arrived, Mwende had already passed away. The police were subsequently informed.
Omare noted that the family had resided in the apartment for only about two weeks after relocating from a nearby residence and had limited interaction with other tenants. Neighbor Costan Wangui said residents rushed to assist but found Mwende lying in a pool of blood with her young son beside her.
Dr. Nyambane is scheduled to undergo a mental health evaluation at Kiambu Hospital. Meanwhile, an autopsy will be conducted at Kenyatta National Hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
