Residents of Khwisero and Kisa Central in Kakamega County are optimistic about the ongoing construction of the Khwisero Mother and Child Hospital, which promises to improve healthcare access and reduce travel distances for treatment.

The facility is expected to provide specialized maternal and child health services closer to home, addressing the current challenge of long journeys to Butere for such care.

Improved Healthcare Access

John Okwomi, a boda boda rider from Khwisero, highlighted the difficulties locals have faced due to limited services at nearby facilities. He expressed hope that the new hospital will be fully equipped with necessary medicines, staff, and medical equipment to serve patients effectively.

Wycliffe Sande from Kisa Central emphasized that having services like X-ray locally will reduce costly travel to Butere. He also noted that the hospital will offer reliable healthcare access even during nighttime emergencies.

Economic Opportunities for the Community

The hospital is anticipated to create jobs for healthcare professionals and support staff such as cleaners and security personnel. This influx of workers is likely to stimulate demand for housing, food, and other goods, benefiting local businesses.

Reagan Munami, a Kisa Central resident, described the hospital as a long-awaited project that will ease congestion at other hospitals and accelerate healthcare delivery. He also linked the facility to potential growth in rental housing and commercial activities around Ikolomani Market.

Calls for Adequate Resources

Community members urged authorities to ensure the hospital is not only completed but also adequately staffed and stocked with medicines and equipment. Past experiences with understaffed and under-resourced facilities have led to delays and inadequate care, which the new hospital aims to address.

Overall, the Khwisero Mother and Child Hospital is seen as a critical development that will enhance healthcare services and serve as a catalyst for economic growth in Khwisero and neighboring areas.
