Mwaniki G BM, a Kenyan who left his life abroad to focus on mental health advocacy at home, has passed away unexpectedly, leaving a void in the community he sought to serve.

Friends and fellow activists recall Mwaniki as a passionate and dedicated advocate who returned with a clear mission to raise mental health awareness in Kenya. Just weeks before his death, he was actively involved in organizing a major mental health event in Mukurweini.

Unfinished Plans for Mental Health Awareness

According to Dr Eunice Wamuyu Menja, Mwaniki was deeply engaged in planning the event, exchanging ideas and strategies to reach more people affected by mental health challenges.

"About a month ago, I was in contact with him on WhatsApp discussing a large mental health awareness event in Mukurweini. He was full of energy, ideas, and commitment," Dr Menja shared.

His sudden passing came as a shock to those close to him, who mourn not only the loss of a friend but also the unfinished work he was so passionate about.

Legacy and Impact

Mwaniki’s death has left a profound sense of loss among mental health advocates and the wider community. His friends expressed their grief and determination to continue the work he started.

  • He returned from the diaspora specifically to contribute to mental health advocacy.
  • He was actively planning a significant awareness event before his death.
  • His efforts highlighted the urgent need for mental health conversations and support in Kenya.

"Rest well, my friend. Your voice and work in mental health will not be forgotten," his close associates said in a heartfelt tribute.

As Kenya continues to grapple with mental health issues, Mwaniki’s commitment serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing advocacy and community support.
