Kenya has announced a 24-member motocross team to participate in the 2026 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) scheduled from August 28 to 30 at Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek, Namibia.
The team, officially flagged off at Nairobi's Jamhuri Motocross Track, includes riders across multiple categories ranging from MX50 for the youngest competitors to senior MX1 class and veterans. This diverse squad reflects Kenya's commitment to showcasing its top talent on the continental stage.
Team Composition and Leadership
- Team captain Rohan Gandhi will compete in the MX1 category alongside Apollo Mbuki.
- Other categories represented include four riders in MX50, five in MX65, five in MX Lites, and three in MX125.
- Kenya also fields participants in Female MX50, Female MX65, MX65 Women’s B, and the veterans' division.
The Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK) highlighted that the squad members were selected based on strong performances in recent competitions. MSFK president Renzo Bernardi emphasized that the team embodies the highest calibre of Kenyan motocross talent and carries the full backing of the federation and the government.
Support and Logistics
- Team manager Eric Ngure leads the delegation, supported by coach Walter Kuria and deputy manager Shanna Kandie.
- The technical team includes Dr. Njooro Karanja (team doctor), Joseph Kamau (head mechanic), David Mukundi (mechanic), and delegation manager Judy Luyo.
- The motorcycles will be transported by road from Nairobi to Namibia, traversing Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana—a journey of approximately 5,500 kilometres.
- Riders and officials will fly to Windhoek on August 26 to prepare for the championship.
The MXoAN event gathers national teams from FIM Africa member countries, providing a platform for riders to compete at various engine and age categories. Performances here are crucial for athletes aiming to represent Africa in global competitions such as the Motocross of Nations in France and the WMX Cup in Australia.
