Kenya Power Schedules Maintenance Outages Across Five Counties on August 24
Kenya Power will conduct maintenance outages on August 24 affecting parts of five counties. Customers urged to plan for interruptions from 8am to 5pm.
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned power outages on Monday, August 24, across select areas in five counties. The outages will start as early as 8am and last up to nine hours in some locations.
The scheduled interruptions are part of essential maintenance activities including upgrading and replacing power lines, as well as connecting new customers. KPLC emphasized that these works are necessary to improve the reliability of the electricity network.
Affected Counties and Areas
- Meru: Mikumbune Market, Ntemwene, Macikine Girls Secondary School, Rugejo Coffee Factory, Gaatia Market, Nyanya Market, Covenant Hospital, Kathera Boys Secondary School, Kandigi Coffee Factory (9am to 5pm)
- Laikipia: Entire Nanyuki area including Nanyuki Town, Mukima, Thingithu Estate, Cidar Mall, Laikipia Air Base, British Army Training Unit Kenya, and numerous surrounding estates and villages (8am to 3pm)
- Migori: Ntimaru Town and environs such as Wangirabose, Teragai, Bongibo, Kwiho, Angatta, Mangoke, Nyaroa, Nyamutiro (8:30am to 5pm)
- Kisumu: Gatundu area including Gatundu Primary, Kencel Tower, Gatundu Market, and Gatundu Village Market (8am to 9:30am)
- Uasin Gishu: Kipkeino School, St. Jacobs School, Kaptich (8am to 5pm)
Customers and businesses within these regions are advised to make necessary arrangements to minimize disruptions during the maintenance period.

Separately, a KPLC employee based in Mbale, Vihiga, was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly soliciting a bribe related to a power pole installation. The suspect was charged and released on bail pending further proceedings.
