Kenya Police Bullets head coach David Bujego remains optimistic as his team prepares to compete in the 2026 CECAFA Women’s Champions League in Kigali, Rwanda. The three-time Kenyan Women’s Premier League champions departed Nairobi on Thursday, aiming to secure the region’s sole spot at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Drawn in Group C, Kenya Police Bullets face a challenging start against Tanzania’s Simba Queens, the 2022 CECAFA champions, and Burundi’s Top Girls Academy. The tournament runs from August 21 to 31, with Police Bullets opening their campaign against Simba Queens on Monday.

Preparation and Squad Enhancements

Bujego acknowledges the limited preparation time due to the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) but believes the team is ready to compete at a high level. "The preparations have been good. We have signed some good players, although we had very little time to prepare because of WAFCON," he said.

Among the new signings are Harambee Starlets midfielder Martha Amnyolet from Vihiga Queens and winger Eglay Mukhwana of Trinity Starlets. These additions are expected to strengthen the squad that has dominated domestically with three consecutive league titles.

Integrating late arrivals posed some challenges, but Bujego is confident the team is in excellent shape for the competition. "The team is in very good shape, and we are optimistic," he added.

Regional Rivalries and Aspirations

The clash with Simba Queens is part of a growing rivalry between Kenyan and Tanzanian clubs in the regional women’s game. Tanzanian sides have been strong contenders, with JKT Queens winning the CECAFA title in 2023 and 2025, while Commercial Bank of Ethiopia took the 2024 crown.

Kenya Police Bullets have come close to continental qualification in previous years, finishing runners-up in 2024 and reaching the semi-finals in 2025. Under Bujego’s leadership, the team is determined to go further and clinch the CECAFA title this time.

Only the tournament winner will represent the CECAFA region at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, adding significant pressure to every match. Bujego insists his team is not just participating but aiming to bring home the regional crown.
