KECOBO Confirms Suspension of KAMP Licence Over Governance and Funds Misuse
KECOBO maintains suspension of KAMP licence citing governance issues and alleged misuse of Sh5.5 million, referring case to DCI for investigation.

The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) has upheld its decision to suspend the operating licence of KAMP Copyright and Related Rights Limited due to unresolved governance concerns and allegations of misappropriating Sh5.5 million intended for creatives.
In a statement issued following a special board meeting on August 24, 2026, KECOBO announced that KAMP had failed to adequately address the regulator’s concerns. The board therefore decided to maintain the suspension until the issues are resolved.
KECOBO has referred the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action. The regulator also ordered KAMP’s chairperson and directors, whose tenure violates Section 46B of the Copyright Act, to vacate their positions immediately.
KAMP has been instructed to hold elections and establish a properly constituted board within 30 days, submitting all relevant documentation such as minutes and election results to KECOBO within 24 hours of the elections.
Additionally, KAMP’s current Chief Executive Officer and other implicated officials have been directed to step aside pending the outcome of the investigations.
This development follows a ruling by the Copyright Tribunal on August 17, which upheld KECOBO’s supervisory mandate but required the regulator to conclude its actions within seven days.
During the suspension period, the Performing and Audio-Visual Rights Society of Kenya (PAVRISK) will manage royalty collections on behalf of rights usually represented by KAMP. KECOBO confirmed that these funds will be held separately and not disbursed until further notice.
