Kasarani Stadium Renovation Progresses Ahead of AFCON 2027
Kasarani Stadium is undergoing major upgrades to meet international standards as Kenya prepares to co-host AFCON 2027 with Uganda and Tanzania.

The Kenyan government has provided an update on the extensive renovations at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo detailed the ongoing works at the 45,000-seat stadium, emphasizing efforts to elevate the facility to international standards and improve the experience for players, officials, and fans.
Key Upgrades at Kasarani Stadium
- Installation of a new hybrid Bermuda-grass pitch with an advanced drainage system
- Complete replacement of seating throughout the stadium
- Renovation of VIP and VVIP lounges
- Completion of the spectator canopy, now 99% finished
- Installation of 2,000-lux floodlighting suitable for high-definition broadcasts
- Addition of animation screens and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology
- Improvements to two training grounds within the Kasarani complex
- Modernized changing rooms and upgraded media facilities
- Implementation of automated ticketing systems
These enhancements aim to ensure Kasarani Stadium meets the technical and operational demands of a major continental tournament.
Regional Preparations for AFCON 2027
The tournament is scheduled to run from June 19 to July 17, 2027. Alongside Kasarani, Talanta Stadium on Ngong Road will serve as one of the primary venues in Kenya.
Additionally, upgrades are underway at Eldoret’s Kipchoge Keino Stadium, where seating capacity is being expanded to 15,671 to meet international football standards. The renovation is expected to revive the local sports scene upon completion.
