Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has nominated former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa to serve as the deputy leader of the party. The announcement came during a visit to Jumwa's home in Kakuyuni, Kilifi County.
Speaking to supporters gathered at her residence, Kalonzo emphasized Jumwa's political experience and influence, highlighting that no other party had offered her a comparable leadership role.
"Aisha Jumwa is a formidable woman; were she to represent Wiper, even I would command respect. I propose we officially appoint her as Deputy Party Leader. How many support this?" Kalonzo said.
Departure from UDA
This development follows Jumwa’s resignation from President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on July 30. She cited feelings of humiliation and exclusion from government activities despite her loyal support.
At a press conference, Jumwa recounted how she was denied entry to a meeting between President Ruto and coastal leaders and received no response to her attempts to communicate directly with the president.
"I campaigned for Ruto independently, yet I have no role in his government. I have been chased away from State House and humiliated," Jumwa said.
She framed her resignation as a principled decision rooted in her commitment to the democratic rights of Kilifi residents. While she did not immediately disclose her next political move, she hinted at plans to announce a new political platform soon, fueling speculation about a possible 2027 Kilifi gubernatorial bid.
Wiper Leadership Changes
Kalonzo’s visit occurred shortly after a fresh round of appointments within Wiper. Former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau was appointed party chairman. Kamau had earlier withdrawn from the Murang’a gubernatorial race.
Other new appointments include Nyali MP Mohamed Ali and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, who was named party spokesperson. These changes align with Wiper’s strategy to broaden its coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
