The Jubilee Party has issued a stern response to President William Ruto's recent comments targeting former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing the current administration of deflecting criticism by repeatedly using Kenyatta's name.

In a statement released on August 13, Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta urged the government to "let Uhuru Kenyatta be" and concentrate on addressing pressing national issues instead of focusing on the retired leader.

Jubilee Calls for Focus on Governance

The party highlighted that four years into Ruto's tenure, the government's achievements should be the benchmark for evaluation, not continuous references to Uhuru Kenyatta. Jubilee pointed out that despite promises made during campaigns, the administration has yet to deliver significantly on roads, job creation, or relief on the cost of living.

Defending Uhuru’s Rights as a Private Citizen

Jubilee emphasized that Uhuru Kenyatta, as a former head of state, is entitled to privacy and freedom of expression like any Kenyan citizen. The party criticized the government for making Kenyatta the focus of political attacks instead of tackling economic challenges, rising taxes, and the hardships faced by ordinary citizens.

Accountability and Political Responsibility

The party challenged the Kenya Kwanza government to take responsibility for its performance, stating:

  • "A government in power for a full term cannot keep campaigning against a leader who left office in 2022."
  • "Leadership requires answering for your own record rather than recycling grievances against predecessors."

Jubilee further suggested that the persistent criticism of Kenyatta indicates the administration’s discomfort with his enduring political influence, describing it as a "mirror" the government prefers to avoid.

Concluding, Jubilee reiterated that Kenyans elected the Ruto administration to provide solutions, not to engage in prolonged political battles with a former president who is no longer seeking elective office.
