Jimi Wanjigi Criticizes Ruto’s Vision 2060 as ‘Fantasy’, Calls for Accountability on Current Performance

Businessman and Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi has challenged President William Ruto’s Vision 2060 development agenda, labeling it a ‘fantasy’ and insisting the government should first demonstrate tangible achievements during its current term.

In an interview on Monday, August 24, 2026, Wanjigi questioned the timing of the long-term plan, arguing that the Kenya Kwanza administration is yet to deliver on its existing promises.

Calls for Accountability on Current Scorecard

Wanjigi pointed out that out of the 243 promises made by the government, only about 26 have been fulfilled, translating to an 11 percent success rate. He described this performance as a failure, given that the administration is in its fourth year.

“William Ruto should be talking about his current scorecard, not some future that has yet to come,” Wanjigi said. He dismissed comparisons to countries like Singapore and questioned the emphasis on a vision extending to 2060.

Emphasis on Credibility and Track Record

Wanjigi argued that long-term national visions must be grounded in credible delivery records. He cited former President Mwai Kibaki’s administration as a benchmark, noting that the Vision 2030 plan was introduced after a proven track record of economic growth and achievements.

“When 2030 vision came in, Mwai Kibaki had credibility. He had a track record of various achievements,” Wanjigi stated.

Focus on Present Responsibilities

He urged President Ruto to prioritize fulfilling current obligations before promoting distant development goals, saying, “You have a Kibarua currently. Fanya hiyo. Gain our respect, gain our credit, gain our feeling that you are credible before you start talking about some dreamy future.”
