Veteran Kenyan media personality Janet Mbugua has publicly shared her struggle with increasingly severe menstrual pain linked to endometriosis, a condition she has managed since her first period.

In a candid video posted online, Mbugua explained that the pain and fatigue she now experiences have escalated significantly, compelling her to seek specialist care. "My period pain has become so bad. I literally had to see a gynaecologist, and we're figuring out a new treatment plan," she said.

Janet, now in her 40s, noted that these symptoms feel different and more intense than before, describing the discomfort as a clear signal from her body rather than something to simply endure. She recently underwent a pap smear and ultrasound, routine tests she completes annually, and is currently awaiting the results to determine the next steps in her treatment.

Using her platform, she invited women experiencing similar unexplained changes in their menstrual cycles to share their stories, fostering open dialogue around a topic often considered taboo.

Public Response and Support

The video struck a chord with many women on social media, with numerous comments sharing personal experiences and advice:

  • @mostly_queen: "I also have endometriosis and adenomyosis. It's so exhausting."
  • @iluvswahili: "Try Raspberry Leaf Tea and reducing processed foods."
  • @wkimani1: "This was me last year, currently in my mid 40s. Please try seed cycling and cut out processed foods."
  • @chebeteva: "Ooh God, forgive me for the things I take for granted."

Personal Challenges Beyond Health

Janet Mbugua has also spoken about the emotional impact of her divorce from Eddie Ndichu, revealing it affected her friendships and exposed her to public scrutiny. Despite these challenges, she continues to use her voice to highlight important health issues affecting women.
