InterAsia Lines will start a weekly Asia–East Africa container service through Mombasa Port, boosting maritime trade connectivity from mid-October.
InterAsia Lines, a Taiwan-based container shipping company, is set to introduce a weekly shipping service connecting Asia and East Africa through the Port of Mombasa starting mid-October 2026.
The announcement was made by Eric Chen, InterAsia Lines' East Africa and Mozambique Area Representative, during a meeting with Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) CEO Captain William Ruto.
Service Details and Partnerships
The new route will operate vessels with capacities ranging between 2,000 and 2,500 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). This service will be run in collaboration with major industry players including South Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine, Singapore’s Pacific International Lines, and China’s COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited.
Strategic Importance
KPA highlighted that the introduction of InterAsia Lines' service reflects growing demand for shipping between Asia and East Africa, driven by increased trade volumes along this corridor.
Eric Chen praised ongoing infrastructure upgrades at the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu, saying the new service demonstrates confidence in the region’s maritime capabilities and market potential.
KPA’s Commitment
Captain William Ruto welcomed the new service, affirming KPA’s dedication to enhancing port efficiency and maintaining Mombasa’s status as a key maritime hub in East Africa.
He assured the shipping line of continued support to ensure smooth operations and competitiveness, focusing on faster vessel turnaround times and improved services.
Route Coverage
InterAsia Lines’ expanded service network includes a 35-day roundtrip covering the ports of Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Dar es Salaam, and Mombasa, thereby strengthening its presence in East Africa-related shipping corridors beyond its existing Asia and India sub-continent routes.
