Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is set to make his Premier League managerial debut tonight against Fulham at Craven Cottage, but the Blues face several player absences ahead of the West London derby.

Injury and Suspension Concerns for Chelsea

Alonso’s squad is dealing with up to four potential player unavailabilities. Striker Danny Welbeck, a new signing, missed recent training due to a minor fitness issue but remains a possible participant. Alonso stated, "Danny can be involved; he just needed a couple of days not training that much because of a little thing. We expect him to be back on Saturday. We need to go day by day."

Jordan Henderson continues to recover from a wrist injury sustained during the World Cup in July and is not yet fully fit. Emmanuel Emegha, who recently returned to training after a hamstring injury disrupted his preseason, is doubtful. Centre-back Aaron Anselmino is sidelined following a hamstring injury picked up during Chelsea’s last preseason friendly in Australia and Asia. Wesley Fofana will miss the match due to suspension after receiving a red card in the previous season’s final league game.

Fulham's Squad Challenges

Hosts Fulham, managed by Alonso’s former teammate Álvaro Arbeloa, have a shorter injury list. Tom Cairney is out following minor surgery earlier this month, and Joachim Andersen is suspended for the fixture.

Transfer Activity Under Alonso

Alonso’s first transfer window at Chelsea saw eight new signings, including Welbeck, Henderson, Geovany Quenda, Maxence Lacroix, and Morgan Rogers. Notably, Marc Cucurella was among the departures. This blend of experience and youth marks a shift in Chelsea’s recruitment approach as they prepare for the new season.
