The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained Moses Karima Chandugu, an immigration officer at the State Department for Immigration, Border Control and Citizen Services, following bribery allegations in Mombasa.

Chandugu is accused of demanding a KSh 12,000 bribe to expedite fingerprint processing and accelerate passport issuance for applicants. The complaint was filed at the EACC’s Lower Coast Regional Office, prompting an undercover operation that led to the officer’s arrest.

After being taken into custody at Mombasa's Central Police Station, Chandugu was released on a cash bail of KSh 20,000 as investigations continue.

EACC's Response to Corruption in Public Services

The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to eliminating bribery within government service points, emphasizing that citizens should access services free from corrupt practices. The public is urged to report any instances of corruption encountered when dealing with government officials to the nearest EACC office.
