The Ministry of ICT has officially received 44 officers redeployed from the now-defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), strengthening its workforce to advance Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
The officers are part of a broader redeployment of 922 former NHIF staff to various government ministries and departments following the transition from NHIF to the newly established Social Health Authority (SHA). Out of 1,737 NHIF employees, 815 were absorbed into SHA.
Supporting the Digital Superhighway
ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui emphasized that integrating these officers is crucial as the Ministry pushes forward the Digital Superhighway pillar of the government’s development strategy. He highlighted the importance of equipping the new staff with knowledge of the Ministry’s mandate and ongoing projects.
“To ensure a smooth transition and effective integration, the new officers will undergo a comprehensive induction programme to equip them with a holistic understanding of the Ministry's operations, policy frameworks, and its critical role in driving digital transformation across the nation,” Tanui said during the reception.
Focus on Capacity Building
- The induction programme will familiarize the officers with the Ministry’s operations and strategic priorities.
- The officers will collaborate with existing staff to implement initiatives improving digital connectivity and access to online government services.
- The Ministry plans to continue strengthening its human resource capacity to support the expansion of digital infrastructure nationwide.
The meeting welcoming the officers was also attended by Washington Okoth, Secretary for the ICT Digital Infrastructure Directorate, alongside other senior Ministry officials.
This redeployment is part of broader public sector restructuring following the establishment of SHA, aimed at optimizing human resources across government agencies.
