Gachagua Welcomes North Eastern Delegation, Expands Mount Kenya Political Bloc

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted a delegation from Northern Kenya at his Wamunyoro residence as he concludes his 56-day engagement tour across various communities.

The visitors, representing counties from the northeastern region, were welcomed ahead of high-level discussions aimed at consolidating political alliances.

Redefining Mount Kenya Region

Gachagua has reimagined the Mount Kenya political landscape by introducing a new classification that includes four sub-regions:

• Mount Kenya South: Representing the Kamba community.
• Mount Kenya West: Comprising the Kikuyu community.
• Mount Kenya East: Encompassing the Mbeere, Embu, Meru, and Tharaka communities.
• Mount Kenya North: A newly coined category including Isiolo and Marsabit counties.

He made these remarks during a public event at Manyatta Market in Embu County on August 22, 2026, where he criticized President William Ruto for allegedly attempting to divide the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political Consolidation Ahead of 2027

Gachagua emphasized that the expanded Mount Kenya bloc would strengthen the region’s political influence by uniting diverse communities under a single umbrella.

"This house will be bigger, won't it?" he rhetorically asked his audience, highlighting the strategic advantage of the inclusive alliance.
