Gachagua Alleges Plot Involving Ruto, CS Joho and IEBC Vice Chair to Manipulate 2027 Election

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto, Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, and an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) vice chairperson of conspiring to rig the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on August 24, 2026, during a public meeting with representatives from Isiolo and Marsabit counties at his Wamunyoro home, Gachagua said he possesses information about a plan to introduce a system aimed at election manipulation. He stated that he is still verifying the details before making a full public disclosure.

Gachagua said: "There is something they want to do with the IEBC, involving Joho and the IEBC vice chair. They want to introduce a system to steal the election, and only a few details remain to be confirmed."

He emphasized his commitment to thoroughly confirm the information before revealing it to Kenyans, adding that he expects to have more details soon. He also distinguished himself from other leaders who allegedly use sensitive information for political bargaining, insisting that he will share any verified information openly with the public.

The former deputy president has not provided evidence to support these allegations, nor has he named the IEBC vice chairperson involved or explained how the purported system would function.
