Four young men appeared before Makindye Chief Magistrate's Court on August 21, charged with the murder of SC Villa football captain David Owori. The suspects, aged between 18 and 20, face allegations of aggravated robbery and murder following an attack in Kampala.

Prosecutors stated that on the evening of August 4, the accused, together with others still at large, assaulted Owori. They reportedly stole his mobile phones and personal belongings before inflicting fatal injuries.

Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera noted that murder and aggravated robbery are capital offences, meaning the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case. Consequently, the suspects did not enter pleas and were remanded in custody until their next mention on September 10. They were advised to seek bail from the High Court.

Additional Charges and Ongoing Investigations

Beyond Owori's killing, the four are accused of robbing two other individuals. They allegedly attacked Congolese national Dr Jackson Ombeni with a concrete paver, stealing an iPhone 11 Pro Max, US$90, and items valued over one million shillings. Two suspects also face charges for robbing Edrisa Mugisha after assaulting him with a wooden object.

The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected as the case develops.

Community Impact

The death of David Owori has deeply affected SC Villa football club and residents of Kampala, who continue to mourn the loss of the young captain in a violent incident.
