The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has detained five individuals suspected of involvement in the killing of former Cheptais councillor Nathan Masai Wasama on August 8.

Bungoma County Police Commander Anderson Njagi reported that two suspects, Robert Kimtai alias Miti and Brian Chongin Kaos, voluntarily presented themselves at Chwele and Cheptais police stations as investigations progressed.

Meanwhile, three other suspects were apprehended during a police operation at the residence of area Member of Parliament Fred Kapondi. Authorities recovered crude weapons and a hand grenade but found no firearms at the MP's home.

Commander Njagi stated: "Regarding the murder of Nathan Wasama, we confiscated three motorbikes and, after searching Hon. Kapondi's residence, we discovered crude weapons and one hand grenade, but no firearm."

The suspects remain in custody as detectives continue to gather evidence and explore leads surrounding the circumstances of Wasama's death.
