A significant fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in Kangemi, a densely populated area in Nairobi, causing widespread panic among residents. The blaze affected several residential buildings situated behind the Posta area.

Videos circulated showing thick black smoke and flames consuming tightly packed structures. Residents fled the scene, with some attempting to rescue belongings, while others raised alarms about people trapped inside the burning homes.

Nairobi County firefighters promptly responded, working to control the fire and carry out rescue operations. At the time of reporting, officials had not yet disclosed the cause of the fire, the extent of damage, or any casualties.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in Nairobi’s informal settlements, where narrow roads and congested housing complicate firefighting and evacuation efforts.

Emergency responders remain on site, striving to access all affected buildings and ensure the safety of residents.
